My first year with the Foundation has been a great learning and self development opportunity. It has has allowed me to continue expressing my deep gratitude for the sorority. Reviewing applicants and seeing the award recipients reactions and gratitude is a very rewarding and humbling experience.

Over 2,800 campus administrators, national organizations, and students convened in Indianapolis, IN, for the AFLV Central Conference. This conference is comprised of the Central Fraternal Leadership Conference, the National Black Greek Leadership Conference, alongside hosting the Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.’s Midyear Leadership Conference. Since 2011, the Delta Phi Lambda Foundation has sponsored scholarships to pay for sisters to attend the conference.

In 2017, the Foundation awarded three sisters the opportunity to attend the full conference and assist them with travel expenses. Of the many applications received, the Foundation awarded three sisters the scholarship: Windy Nguyen from University of Iowa, Celina Yang from Iota Chapter at Grand Valley State University, and Victoria Le from Clemson University.

I was honored to have the privilege to attend AFLV. This experience has given me a great outlook of Greek life and professionalism. I have learned so many new things, met a lot of new faces, and made new memories.

    Victoria Le

By attending the AFLV conference, I learned from other Greek campus leaders in order to leave my legacy. I learned more ways for me to give back to my community and show the community that Greek life goes beyond the stereotypes. With only one semester left, I wanted to ensure that this last semester will have the most impact I will ever leave on my campus.

    Windy Nguyen

This experience has amazing so far. Met a lot of people and definitely learning a lot from everything and everyone. AFLV helped me expand my knowledge on other ways I can effectively lead my position as well as leadership skills that helped me become a successful leader within my organization and community.

Each year at the Delta Phi Lambda National Convention, the Delta Phi Lambda Foundation awards two scholarships: the Academic Excellence Scholarship and the Hannah Seoh Alumnae Scholarship. The recipients of these scholarships demonstrate academic excellence, strong leadership, and a commitment to serve. This past year we were fortunate to be able to provide $750 for each scholarship thanks to the generosity of our donors.

    Brittany Tan

    2017 academic excellence scholarship recipient

The Academic Excellence Scholarship can help collegiate sisters offset costs associated with academics, including tuition, books, and study abroad. This past year's recipient, Brittany Tan, is an undergraduate student at DePaul University pursuing her B.A. in Psychology with a Minor in Business Administration. Tan has served as Cultural Chair, MGC Delegate, Vice President of External Affairs, Academic Chair, and Assistant Affiliate Member Educator for her chapter. She has volunteered with the Salvation Army, Vincentian Service Day, and Chicago Cares to name a few. Tan continues to excel academically as well as inspiring and supporting sisters to do the same. "It is truly an honor to be awarded this scholarship! The Foundation provides a way for me to continue my education and pursue my career," said Tan. "I appreciate each and every person who helped make this possible."

    Tiffany Yim

2017 Hannah Seoh Alumnae Scholarship recipient

The Hannah Seoh Alumnae Scholarship can help graduate students and young professionals conduct research, study abroad, or pay for professional conferences. This past year's recipient, Tiffany Yim, graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2015 with a B.A. in Philosophy. As an undergraduate, she served as the Vice President of External Relations, Recruitment Chair, and Academic Chair for her chapter. Yim is currently a law student at the University of California, Irvine School of Law. In her spare time, she volunteers for the Legal Aid Foundation of Chicago and the Elder Abuse Restraining Orders Clinic. Yim mentors underclassmen and encourages them to do pro bono community service work. “I will be using this scholarship to help pay tuition this semester,” said Yim. “I am so grateful to the Delta Phi Lambda Foundation and to all the Sisters who contributed for this scholarship. It is amazing to have the support of the sorority while pursuing my goal of being a lawyer.”

The Foundation would like to thank all volunteers who served on the review committee this year: Jennifer Albesa, Anna Huang, Hannah Hubbard, Maria Jaochico, Nichole Pearl, Jaleesa Reed, Briana Rice, and Sara Yang. Without your support, it would not be possible to award the most deserving sisters scholarships to help them achieve their academic and professional goals. We appreciate your time and giving back to the sisterhood.

“Learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someone’s life. Be the light that helps others see; it is what gives life its deepest significance.”
    ― Roy T. Bennett

We are truly thankful for our donors who continue to be the light for our sisters' candles on their academic journey. Thanks to you, the Foundation was able to award 2 outstanding women scholarships for academic excellence and professional development. We were also able to award another 3 amazing women AFLV scholarships.

Thank you for making the Foundation's mission possible through your generosity.
