Atlanta, GA -- Bringing the total number of board members to eight, the addition of four board members create the largest board of directors for the Delta Phi Lambda Foundation in its history and the most diverse membership in age and region. The Foundation is pleased to announce four new members to the Board of Directors: Kristine Medina, Joe Vugteveen, Xiomara Santana, and Anh Nguyen.
Kristine Medina currently works as a computer technician for West Florida Public Libraries. She graduated from The University of West Florida with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Prior to joining the board, Medina served as the editor-in-chief for The Jade Times, a Delta Phi Lambda publication. Medina chartered the Omicron Chapter of Delta Phi Lambda in 2010.
“Learning from one another is essential to understanding what it takes to become an authentic leader, and I hope that my contributions as a member of the Board of Directors will allow us to collectively be further defined as game-changers in today's society,” Medina said.
Joe Vugteveen is a web project coordinator at Grand Valley State University. He is a long-time donor and supporter of the organization, having been a chapter adviser to the Iota Chapter of Delta Phi Lambda at GVSU. Vugteveen received a master’s degree in higher education from GVSU.
Vugteveen stated that he has a “commitment to continue to build upon the successes of previous board members and to explore opportunities that empower the women of Delta Phi Lambda to grow as leaders within their chapters and the communities they serve.”
Xiomara Santana is a clinic assistant at Planned Parenthood of the Heartland. She recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in science, health and human physiology from The University of Iowa. She has a track record of leadership as the former president of the university’s Native American Student Association and the recipient of the Student Leadership Award from its Center for Diversity & Enrichment. She is a sister of the Xi Chapter of Delta Phi Lambda at the University of Iowa. She said her vision for her time on the board is to “aid in the expansion of scholarship opportunities to help our Sisters with financial relief.”
Most notably, the board welcomes Anh Nguyen, founder of Delta Phi Lambda. Currently, she is an asset manager with SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, Inc.. She earned her master’s degree in economics from Georgia State University. Nguyen said she wants her involvement to “increase the Foundation’s presence and raise large dollar donations from untapped donors to support our sisters.” She will also serve on the board’s executive committee as its treasurer.
“On behalf of the Delta Phi Lambda Foundation, I am excited to welcome Ms. Nguyen, Mr. Vugteveen, Ms. Santana, and Ms. Medina to the Board of Directors,” said Lillie Madali, current executive director. “Together with the existing board, they will bring new energy and vibrancy to help us elevate our mission to support sorority collegiate members and alumnae.”
The board provides leadership for carrying out the Foundation’s mission to empower the women of Delta Phi Lambda and the communities they serve by funding scholarships and leadership development grants since 2010. Ann Nguyen, who chartered the Pi Chapter of Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, will serve as chair of the 2019 Board of Directors. She served as the vice chair in 2018.
