Atlanta, GA -- Over 2,800 campus administrators, national organizations, and students convened in Indianapolis, IN, for the AFLV Central Conference. This conference is comprised of the Central Fraternal Leadership Conference, the National Black Greek Leadership Conference, alongside hosting the Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.’s Midyear Leadership Conference. Since 2011, the Delta Phi Lambda Foundation has sponsored scholarships to pay for sisters to attend the conference.
Of the many applications received, the Foundation awarded five scholarships. Two scholarships were made possible thanks to a donor-advised grant created by the alumnae sisters of Zeta Chapter at the Georgia Institute of Technology. These two scholarships were awarded to Zeta Chapter sisters Anita Duong and Min Hsuan (May) Lin. Three scholarships were made possible thanks to a successful Giving Tuesday campaign. These three scholarships were awarded to Martina Pineda from Beta Chapter at University of Cincinnati, Mengmo Zhou from University of Iowa, and Tammy Lu from Gamma Chapter at the Georgia State University.
The Foundation has continued to sponsor scholarships for AFLV Central because of the leadership education and networking opportunity the conference provides. Situated alongside the Sorority’s Midyear Leadership Conference, the scholarship grants sisters an opportunity to connect with other dedicated female leaders from around the nation.

Martina Pineda
University of Cincinnati, Beta Chapter
“By attending an AFLV Conference, I hope to network with other multicultural Greeks who have been successful with their efforts in making their organization better. I hope to gain knowledge that I can bring back to my own organization and to the Multicultural Greek Council in progress at the University of Cincinnati.”
Martina serves as President of her chapter and wants to learn more about how councils function as she is spearheading the creation of a Multicultural Greek Council at the University of Cincinnati. Since she has been initiated, she has been able to integrate Delta Phi Lambda into events they did not participate in before. She hopes to network with other multicultural Greek organizations and learn more about leadership, organizational development, problem-solving, conflict resolution, diversity, and inclusion.
Mengmo Zhou
University of Iowa, Colony Chapter
“I hope this conference can bring nourishment into my life because hearing others’ stories and experience can encourage, motivate, and inspire me.”
Mengmo is an international student and currently serves as Academic Chair for her chapter. She really cherishes this educational opportunity to attend AFLV. She hopes to develop personally and professionally, and to take what she learns from AFLV to help build leaders in her community. Mengo values relationships and hopes to connect with new friends.
Tammy Lu
Georgia State University, Gamma Chapter
“I believe that the AFLV Conference can help teach me new things about organizing and unifying the Greek Life voice to make a meaningful impact in our local community.”
Tammy serves as Assistant to VP Records, Alumnae Liaison, and MGC Delegate. With her role as MGC delegate, she hopes to share the new knowledge and skills she gains at AFLV, and looks forward to implementing new ideas with the Multicultural Greek Council. She especially wants to learn about ways to network and build a strong foundation for Delta Phi Lambda, diversify their understanding of sisterhood, and new methods to collaborate with other Greek councils.
Anita Duong
Georgia Institute of Technology, Zeta Chapter
“I look forward to attending this conference and hope to gain as much knowledge as possible and to create memories with other sisters from different chapters.”
Anita serves as VP of Internal Affairs for her chapter and MGC VP of Recruitment. She is eager to learn more about branding, team-building, programming, organization collaborations, and intra-council relations to share with her council and other sisters to encourage more people to attend AFLV in the future. In addition to attending workshops and presentations, she hopes to learn from others’ experiences to develop as a leader in her chapter and in her school’s community.
Min Hsuan (May) Lin
Georgia Institute of Technology, Zeta Chapter
“I hope to use this conference as an opportunity to learn more on how to lead Delta Phi Lambda later throughout the rest of my college career and further those leadership skills with whatever I do later in life.”
May serves as VP of Finance for her chapter. She hopes to gain insights on marketing strategies of different councils and organizations to help her council expand and grow. In addition, she hopes to improve inter-council relationships at Georgia Tech. With the GT community suffering losses due mental health issues this past year, this conference can be an opportunity for her chapter to learn how to identify and assist those living with mental health issues.
